Hafiz Naeem Congratulates Nation on Successful Strike Against Petroleum Levy, Announces Nationwide Protests

ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has congratulated the nation on successful strike against the petroleum levy, while announcing plans to expand the campaign through protests across Pakistan.

In a statement posted on X, Hafiz Naeem said that Jamaat-e-Islami had successfully held a nationwide strike against the Rs130 per litre levy/taxes, describing it as an excessive burden on petroleum products.

He said the party would now take its campaign against the petroleum levy to the next stage by holding public protests across the country. According to the JI chief, traders, lawyers and other sections of society were also participated in the campaign.

Hafiz Naeem said Jamaat-e-Islami’s local organisations across Pakistan have been instructed to prepare for the next phase of the movement.

At the same time, he said the government’s negotiating team had approached Jamaat-e-Islami for talks. According to Hafiz Naeem, the government representatives have been informed that the party’s negotiating committee will meet them and present its position.

He added that Jamaat-e-Islami would provide relief to the public, signalling that the party intends to continue exerting pressure on the government over the petroleum levy and related taxes.

The statement comes amid Jamaat-e-Islami’s campaign against the financial burden associated with petroleum prices, with the party seeking a reduction in the levy and taxes imposed on fuel.

The next phase of the campaign is expected to focus on nationwide mobilisation, with JI aiming to bring together different sections of society in support of its demands.
