Haq Do Karachi

Haq Do Karachi Ko movement is a major civic and political campaign launched by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) to demand basic human, economic, and municipal rights for the residents of Pakistan's largest metropolitan city. 

Core Tenets of the JI Narrative

• Economic Exploitation: Karachi generates the lion's share of national and provincial revenue, yet its infrastructure remains starved of reinvestment.  
• Civic Decay: The city suffers from acute water shortages, chronic electricity load-shedding, broken roads, and a total lack of a cohesive public transport system.  
• Administrative Usurpation: The provincial ruling party (PPP) hs established a "Qabza Mayor" (rigged mayor) which subverts local government powers through administrative control. 
• Census Manipulation: For some reason or another, authorities deliberately undercounts Karachi's population in national censuses to reduce its political representation and share of resources. 

Objectives and Methods

• Peaceful Resistance: Utilizing sit-ins, rallies, traffic blockades, and legal challenges to protest political disenfranchisement and high utility/fuel prices.  
• Empowering Local Bodies: Insisting on genuine administrative and financial autonomy for local government bodies and union councils so elected representatives can solve neighborhood problems directly.
